Choosing your Wedding Caterer One Bite at a Time

When finding a caterer for your wedding reception, getting started is the hardest part. It's easy to overthink the process and get overwhelmed. After all, there are many things to consider such as wedding venue, caterers who serve specific types of cuisine, bar and beverage packages, wedding décor; it can make your head spin. Just when you start to get overwhelmed it is helpful to remember the proverb "How do you eat an elephant? - One bite at a time". As St. Francis of Assisi put it "Start by doing what is necessary, then what is possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible".

Winter Wedding Reception

If you are the kind of person who needs a bit more than that, may I suggest three simple question that

will get the ball rolling so that the event is unique to you. It is often best to begin with determining the when. If you do not already have a specific date in mind, then start with, what is your

favorite time of year? It's your day, so set yourself up to be happy right off the bat. Don't have a June wedding if you don't particularly care for the summer heat. Maybe you are a cooler weather person. If you are a budget conscious person, the winter might be best if you are in a colder climate. Winter is often the slow season for wedding so there may be deals to be had.

If you are a foodie and want to get right down to the menu, ask another simple question; where do we like to eat? Don't think you have to have a gourmet meal if that's not what you are into. On the other hand, if quality cuisine is important to you, that will help you locate the right caterer for you. Don't worry about needing to be different or the same as other weddings you have attended in the past. Your reception will be unique because you are unique. There will be plenty of time to put your special spin on it later, if that's important to you.

The most important thing to remember is to be present and enjoy the experience. The day will shape up just fine, especially if you hire the right professionals to help you. How do you do that? Start by asking the small, simple questions you feel comfortable asking. Don't worry about sounding silly or naïve. Seek out professionals who are patient and knowledgeable. You will knw them when you find them. They will make you feel valued and comfortable in the questions you ask. Just don't be afraid to ask.
